Project cytokine 2014

Cytokines as biomarkers and therapeutic targets in Emery-Dreifuss muscular dystrophy

• Objective: The purpose of this study is to determine whether cytokines, inflammatory mediators, and in particular IL-6, increased in cells and in the blood of patients with Emery-Dreifuss muscular dystrophy. Also determine if they correlate with the severity of the disease, and if they can be used as biomarkers of disease progression and / or therapeutic targets in patients.

• Project Manager: Dr. G. Lattanzi, CNR-Institute of Molecular Genetics - Bologna Unit

• Status: Completed - Paper for publication

TGFbeta2 project

TGFbeta2 effect on muscle differentiation and senescence

• Objective: To study the effects of TGFbeta2, of which, in an earlier study, conducted on biological material of patients affected by laminopathy(*), has shown an altered secretion in serum and skin fibroblasts. The project aims to study the effects of TGFbeta2 and relative neutralizing antibodies. This project is part of a larger project on cytokines in laminopathies.

• Researchers involved: Dr. G. Lattanzi CNR-Institute of Molecular Genetics - Bologna Unit (Coordinator and first researcher), Elisabetta Mattioli (CNR researcher), Victoria Cenni (CNR researcher)

• Status: ongoing
